When you begin applying for jobs, the ability to fluently speak a second language will make you stand out from the other candidates. The US Department of Education – The USDE offers foreign language fellowship programs in several language areas. In connection with the Us Department of Education is the Critical Language Scholarship Program. The CLS offers a summer language program for college students. The studies are intense and there are 13 languages to choose from. Although this scholarship is separate from you actual major, it helps a great deal as far as your knowledge about your major goes.

DAAD German Studies Research Grant
This grant is for undergrad and grad students who are deemed highly qualified. It includes a short time of research in German studies in the field. You can choose to study in the United States or Germany.

Nellie Martin Carman Scholarship Fund
Those who apply for this scholarship have to be citizens of the United States and a graduating high school senior that plans to go to school in Washington State. The amount of the scholarship is $2,000 that is awarded each year for four years. Only 30 people per year are chosen to receive this scholarship and the deadline each year is March 1st.
Linda Cowden Memorial Scholarship
This annual scholarship is for students who are hard of hearing, deaf, or have an interest in ESL. If you are preparing for a life serving the deaf community, this scholarship is for you. This is a scholarship for students attending university in Tennessee.
The Kor Memorial Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage students in foreign language study. Each year the memorial gives out $500 to each student who is selected. Nominations are made by principals, deans and other heads of education.
